Treat Your Wedding Guests to Wedding Snack Bars

Treat Your Wedding Guests to Wedding Snack Bars

The popularity of wedding food snack bars at wedding receptions is growing all the time.

It is usually cheaper than hiring servers, is easier to offer more of a variety of foods and guests are attracted by the idea of getting to pick and choose what they really want to eat.

These snack bars can be simple and inexpensive or elaborate and more costly. Either way they do require some planning and organization so it will look as attractive as the rest of your decor for the reception.

Basically there are three types of food bars and those being candy bars, snack bars and dessert bars.

Snack Bar

You can plan to have different kinds of these bars arranged around the area with appetizer-type food, or if taking the place of a dinner they could include a seafood bar, a taco bar or sliders and condiments as examples.

Do a popcorn bar with different flavors and colors of your choice. Have both sweet and savory flavors. Don't forget small bags or boxes for the guests to use.

Candy Bar

This bar is fun for all and will act as wedding favors too, if you put out small bags or boxes for the guests to fill at the end of the evening.

Fill the bar with candy in your theme colors, or penny candy, mini candy bars, if cost is not an issue than an all chocolate candy bar would be really special.

Dessert Bar

Generally this bar is the most elaborate of the bars and you can use it in place of a wedding cake or as an added treat if you are also having a wedding cake.

Here's where you can go wild with a chocolate fountain offering strawberries, chunks of sponge or pound cake and small sugar cookies as condiments.

You might include pies and /or miniature tarts.

Wedding cupcakes, petit fours, mini brownies add to choices for the guests.

For those who wish to eat a bit lighter some dishes of molded gelatin or cubed fresh fruit is nice to offer.

There are so many other things you can add especially if the two of you have any favorites.

How to Set Up a Snack Bar

It does take more than a few attractive bowls and containers and food to make a beautiful and practical food bar work and here are some things to consider.

Choose Your Tables

You have a choice of the kind of table or tables you wish to use.

You might have one long, thin table or several round smaller tables where you offer different selections and this also helps congestion in the serving area.

Dishes to Use

If you want a more elegant look you should choose matching dishes.

While if you coordinate mismatched dishes the look could be more casual and sort of whimsical.

Use tiered dishes for an interesting looking table where the food is displayed at different levels. This also is convenient when offering a large array of food items.

Remember that these bars are really an extension of your wedding decorations and so you should make it an interesting part of the decor.

Serving Utensils

You might choose to serve individual plates of food already portioned out as this does control the amount of food each guest would take at one time.

When serving from bowls and plates be sure there are scoops, tongs or other serving utensils that will reach to the bottom of the associated container.

Decorations for the Bar

Theme colored table linens, a centerpiece and scattered embellishments will make your bar an integrated part of the wedding decor.

Your Wedding Theme

You will perhaps want to carry out the food items as part of the theme. As an example a beach wedding candy bar could include salt water taffy, chocolates in shell shapes or a variety of fudge flavors.

A snack bar for a garden wedding could have fruit trays, a variety of nuts and soft pretzels with some dipping sauces.

It can be fun for you to do your own thing when you decide on a snack, candy or dessert bar.

Have your wedding colors displayed in the food you offer. This can be done especially well for your candy and/or dessert bars.

Labeling Your Food

It is a good and important thing for you to label very clearly the various items you are serving.

Do the labels in attractive wedding font.

Most important you label very carefully all foods that are sugar free or will contain nuts. These two things can be very critical for certain guests' diet and well being.

Have a good time planning your wedding bars and Bon Appétit!!!
